Mirror Mirror in the Closet

I wanted to do a series of self-portraits. What I didn't know was that I would instantly lose interest in the subject matter right after the first attempt - which looks the most complete. Therefore, the rest turned out to be just a bunch of lousy and rushed sketches that indicate no resemblance or whatsoever.
Consider them fillers!

Staring at myself for hours in a small closet ... no, thank you!

Faces in Places

Cafe' sketching has become a major hobby of mine. It's really fun until you are caught red-handed by the person you are drawing and awkwardness instantly fills the air.
Subway is my favourite place to sketch people though. People move less, they are either thinking, reading or sleeping. It makes the time fly and the ride enjoyable, but the chances of missing your stop are not slim either!

I love Cafe sketching! It includes cafes and sketching. what's not to like?

Walk the Cycle

Thanks to Anthony Holden, I learnt how to do GIFs and I tested my newly absorbed knowledge on this old walk-cycle assignment. The clean-up t o t a l l y  ruined it since it was last-minute and half-assed, plus the timing is off cause I'm not used to this GIF thingy, but I'm just so happy to see a moving thing in my blog cause it was getting too boring with stationary naked people!

To Think or Not To Think

So this one day I decided to do 2 back-to-back sessions which ended up with 2 completely different results.

First session, I did it the way I always do it. Tried to keep a structural mindset and think in boxes, as my tutor James Ghio insists all the time  - whose life drawings have been a huge inspiration to me by the way. It slows me down, burns my brain cells and mentally wears me out, so there is a lot of desk-flipping involved!

I should do models a big favor and not draw their faces!

Second session, I noticed my brain has burnt out and I simply cannot think or focus anymore, therefore I just let loose! No structure, no boxes, no proper block-in. I got a lot faster but sacrificed structure and proportion for it, but to be honest it was liberating and no desks were flipped!

I am switching back to my nerve-racking method!
